The illegal dinghy entry of migrants into England through the English Channel continues to make headlines in the British media.

Recently, the BBC reports that almost 20% of unaccompanied migrant children from Albania taken in by Kent County Council this year have gone missing.

As of October 31, the local authority has taken in 197 Albanian children, 39 of whom have disappeared. Some of them have turned 18, while others are under age. Ecpat UK, which campaigns to protect children from exploitation, said the figures were very worrying. The council said it had worked closely with the Home Office and the police to protect children.

Government figures gathered by the BBC show that 44,122 people have crossed in small boats so far this year, compared with 28,461 arriving in 2021. This has contributed to overcrowding at the Manston processing center in Kent, which at one point held more more than double its capacity, with about 4,000 people. As for Albanian immigrants, there are 12,000 who entered illegally this year.

Albanian immigrants have been the headline of the British media in recent months, and Home Secretary Suella Braverman has been quite harsh with them. Referring to the number of Albanian men who have 'landed' on British shores, around 10 thousand, the British Home Secretary has stated that the country is being invaded by them. These words provoked a harsh rhetoric and Prime Minister Edi Rama's response was not lacking. The head of the government considered Braverman's statements as 'screams of madness' and 'criminal rhetoric'.

Recently, an agreement was signed between Great Britain and France that aims to increase vigilance and stop the flow of immigrants passing through the English Channel to Great Britain. The agreement provides for an annual payment by the UK to France to help police the border at 72 million euros.
