On Monday afternoon, officers at the Greek port of Salamis arrested two Romanians for espionage.
According to the Coast Guard, the Salamis Port Authority was informed of a Greek-flagged professional-tourist vessel with two Romanians on board, which was moving in the Nafstathmos Strait channel and was stopped by a Navy ship.
During the search carried out by a Greek Coast Guard patrol team, it was discovered that the two foreigners, aged 22 and 52, had photos of the Salamis Naval Force on their mobile phones.
The arrested were transferred to the Central Port Authority of Piraeus, where they were detained for violating Article 148 of the Criminal Code on espionage.
In addition, three mobile phones, the amount of 4,700 euros and 400 dollars were seized, while the ship was taken to the port of Paloukias, Salamis, for a full check of its shipping documents.
