Cancellation of the tender for the port of Porto Romano, Rama: The company

Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that the company that had passed all stages of the procedure for the new port project withdrew from the final bid at the last moment, referring to the crisis situation.

In a live media conference, Rama said that the company had met all deadlines and was expected to submit the financial offer, but ultimately decided to withdraw.

"An inevitable coincidence has occurred. At the last moment, the company that had passed all the stages and was supposed to make the final bid withdrew, citing the crisis situation," the prime minister said.

According to him, the financial offer would be linked to the ceiling set by the study of an international company specializing in the construction of ports and airports, as well as to the conditions set in the open procedure organized by the Albanian government.

Rama stressed that there is no evidence that the company has faced pressure from international institutions.

"We have no reason to look back on anything else. We have no evidence that the company was under pressure from the US, the EU or anyone else," he said.

However, the Prime Minister admitted that during the process there was constant pressure from other factors who, according to him, are not interested in the new port project being a success story.

An inevitable coincidence has occurred. At the last moment, the company that has passed all the stages and should have made the final bid has withdrawn, referring to the crisis situation, and of course, since the financial offer would be linked to the ceiling set by the study by the world's largest company for the construction of ports and airports, and to the ceiling set by the request for the open procedure organized by the Albanian government, we have no reason to look back at anything else.

We have no evidence that the company was under any pressure. The whole process was carried out under pressure, but not from the US, as is said. Not from the EU, not from anyone, but there was constant pressure from other factors, of course uninterested in that port being a success story.

Keep in mind that when some say why a new port is needed, that we have the port, that swamp in the heart of Durrës, and they link the idea of a new port with the sale of the homeland into the hands of the Arabs, in fact the truth is that beyond ignorance, which is always a factor in the way issues are handled, there has been a reason from the beginning. For one reason: anyone who wants to understand, understands without any effort that the existing port has no capacity to be the logistical hub of Corridor 8.

It is in all aspects, even if you take it and embellish it, unsuitable to be a logistics hub of Corridor 8. I'm not saying this, but all the analyses done and the processes followed and the simple reality is that that port is in the middle of the city. A port hub in the middle of the city cannot exist.

Second, the new port as a connecting node of Corridor 8 is a port that takes Albania to another level, but not only Albania, but Albanians, because it is a node connected to another strategic node, the dry port of Pristina and the dry port of Skopje.

The Skopje dry port was planned in Struga, the new government has seen fit to move it to Skopje. This means that we are dealing with important national strategic interests here.

If you think that everyone is eager for Albanians to become stronger, you may think so, but I assure you that in not one, but in a number of countries there are forces that do not welcome this. And this has nothing to do with geopolitical animosities, but also with the commercial interests of the countries.

If you think that the new port is a port that those who have interests tied to the traffic routes between them are waiting for, you are wrong, as they have no reason to welcome it.
