Today, April 10, 2025, at the premises of the Bundeskanzleramt, the Federal Chancellery of Austria in Vienna, I was invited to a meeting by Mr. Clemens Mayr-Harting, Director General for European and International Agendas.
During the conversation, we focused on the steps that Albania has taken towards full integration into the European Union, as well as on the concrete commitments to fulfill all the criteria that will enable its full membership in the European family.
In this context, I stressed the importance of an even stronger commitment by Austria in support of Albania, including the promotion of investment agendas in strategic sectors of the economy, security, environment and tourism. I also emphasized that the “Friends of the Western Balkans” initiative, initiated by the Austrian government, should play a leading role within the European Union.
For his part, Mr. Mayr-Harting praised Albania's progress in meeting the criteria and implementing reforms, emphasizing that Austrian support will continue strongly, as Austria remains very interested in seeing Albania part of the EU by 2030.
