Accused of VR*Uing the Vlora police director, trial in absentia begins for
Bledar Jambelli/ Artan Cuku

The trial in absentia for Bledar Jambelli , accused of ordering the murder of the former Vlora police director, Artan Çuku, begins.

This Tuesday, a hearing was held at the Tirana Court where the Prosecution presented its conclusions regarding the charges against him.

While on June 3 at 1:30 PM, the date was set to hear the prosecution's claim and after that, the defendant's defense will take place before and after hearing the parties, the black platoons will announce the decision on whether or not to convict Jambelli.

The latter was arrested several years ago in Greece, but the Hellenic justice system refused extradition and decided to release him from prison to be arrested again in 2022 in Athens for a serious incident that resulted in the injury of 5 people.

The murder of Artan Çuku occurred in 2017 on "Kosovars" Street, while Bledar Jambelli was arrested in Greece in 2018, as the organizer and financier of the crime.

Mikel Shallari, who was arrested just a few days after the crime as the person who committed the murder, decided to cooperate with the Prosecution, revealing the agreement made with Jambelli for the murder.

Shallari was sentenced to only 8 years in prison, because he had obtained the status of a collaborator of the Prosecution.

The motive for Çuk's murder was the arrest that former Chief Commissioner Cuku made of the client Bledar Jambelli in 2012, accused of the murder of Armando Delaj that same year, for which Jambelli was acquitted by the court two years later, and even received over 500 thousand lek in compensation from the state for the days he spent in prison.
