The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal of the former administrator of the DIA company Kastriot Ismailaj, regarding the decision of the Tirana Court of Appeal.

On May 8, 2018, the Appeal of Tirana upheld the decision of the first instance to sentence Ismailaj to 11 years in prison, for the CEZ-DIA scandal.

Ismailaj was convicted of committing the criminal offense of "fraud with serious consequences" and "money laundering", for collecting CEZ's arrears.

At that time, he was accused of receiving from the CEZ company about 6.5 million dollars, for a service that he had not performed.

Regarding the decision of the Appeal of Tirana, Ismailaj appealed to the Supreme Court, a request which was rejected by the panel of judges composed of Ilir Panda, Medi Bici and Valbon Çekrezi.

Kastriot Ismailaj was released from Fier prison on September 7, 2023, after 9 years from the moment of his arrest.
