One of the seized apartments of former chief prosecutor Adriatik Llalla in Durrës has been turned into an art and activism center for young people.
During the inauguration of this center, the Minister of the Interior, Taulant Balla, took part, who said that this apartment was seized by a high-ranking official, after it was profited illegally, while he did not mention Llalla's name.
"Today we are, I would call it the icing on the cake, in a property that has been seized by decision of the Special Court against Organized Crime and Corruption against a high state official, who could not justify this apartment with his own income .
This is a tangible result of the justice reform and a clear message against all skeptics and opponents of the justice reform, because the truth is that today, in Albania, there are two parties: a party that supports the justice reform and another party that is against.
Today, this apartment is the most meaningful example to all skeptics that assets created due to involvement in criminal groups or due to corruption are being seized. The best news we can give is that, first, we have made a decision.
The director is here, that none of the seized or confiscated assets will be privatized again. We have learned, I also had to learn from the anti-mafia prosecutors last week in Italy, that if they were to go for their privatization, the chances that they will be returned to the former owners are very high," said Balla at the ceremony where the EU ambassador was also present.
Adriatik Llalla has been on the run since 2021. He was sentenced to two years in prison by the Special Court for Corruption and Organized Crime in the spring of 2021, but the decision was never executed as Llalla left the country for Italy.
