A group of intellectuals and academics have appeared in front of the Ministry of Education in support of protesting students, condemning the violence exerted by the police and demanding a full investigation into the events.
Olsi Nika, one of the signatories of the criminal complaint, announced that a group of lawyers has filed a complaint with the Special Prosecution Office, requesting that it investigate the persons who, according to them, have exercised coordinated violence against the protesters.
"As you can see, we are a group of intellectuals representing the academic world, civil society, but also students and engaged citizens in general. We could not remain silent. We are here to give some messages. We absolutely do not agree with the violence exercised by the police against students, who have every right to protest and raise their voices. At this point, we have not stopped our action at words. We are here to give a strong message, to students in particular, to give solidarity to students to continue to raise their voices, because they are not alone. A group of lawyers, part of us, have filed a criminal complaint with the Special Prosecutor's Office to launch a thorough investigation against all those individuals who have exercised coordinated violence against students. It is very clear that violence is exercised to impose silence.
Rama's anti-violence package is in the wake of efforts to encourage silence, but also to shoot protesters. It has nothing to do with democratic rules.
"The report was filed on Friday last week and it is still too early to receive an answer. But I call on the prosecution to speed up the investigation," said Olsi Nika, among other things.
