The Journalists' Association of Albania has raised concerns about a series of reported cases of obstruction of journalists, cameramen and photojournalists by the State Police during the protests held today near the Parliament.

AGSH says that media workers have been restricted from moving and performing their duties in the areas where the gatherings were taking place, calling on the Police to guarantee the conditions for free reporting.

AGSH statement

The Journalists' Association of Albania has received numerous reports of obstruction of media teams during today's protests at the Parliament by the State Police.

Journalists, cameramen, and photographers were obstructed in the performance of their duties and their free movement was restricted in areas where there were gatherings.

AGSH expresses concern about these reports and recalls that journalists and media workers have the right to report freely on protests and events of public interest, without facing unjustified obstacles from state authorities.
The State Police has the obligation to guarantee the safety of journalists and create the necessary conditions for the free exercise of their profession, and not to arbitrarily restrict their access and movement.

AGSH emphasizes that measures to maintain public order and security cannot be used as a justification for hindering journalistic reporting.
Any restriction must have a legal basis, be necessary and proportionate, and not unreasonably infringe on the public's right to be informed.

We call on the leaders of the State Police to take immediate measures to ensure that officers on the ground respect the work of journalists, cameramen and photojournalists, avoiding any unnecessary interference or obstacles during reporting.
The presence of the media at protests is not a privilege granted by the police, but part of the exercise of freedom of expression and the right of citizens to be informed.

AGSH will continue to document reported cases and seek institutional accountability for any violation of media freedom.
