The Final of the Turkish Super Cup ended in the worst possible way. Fenerbahce actually decided to leave the field in the third minute, after Mauro Icardi had crossed Galatasaray (exactly 49 seconds). A surreal epilogue about a "cursed" race.

Fenerbahce had decided to field the U-19 team, a decision taken in conflict with the Federation following the incidents in Trabzon and also after unsuccessful requests to postpone the match (since they were still in competition in the Conference League) and play it with a foreign referee, reports SuperSport.

Galatasaray, to make the situation even more tragicomic, celebrated on the pitch as if everything had happened regularly.

The two major championship rivals were due to face off last December in Riyadh, but the match was not played due to a diplomatic incident between Turkey and the country that was due to host the event.

The crisis was triggered by the decision by Arab authorities not to allow banners and T-shirts with references to the founder and first president of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
