The former world champion is found dead, it is suspected that he was murdered
Jacques Freitag

After a two-week search, authorities in South Africa have found former world champion high jumper Jacques Freitag dead.

As the portal "Netëerk24" reports, Freitag was found bleeding near a cemetery in western Pretoria and the police suspect that the athlete was killed.

He was last seen leaving his mother's home on June 17, with local media speculating that he was struggling with drug addiction at the time he went missing.

The 42-year-old has won world championships at junior and professional level, a rare feat in elite athletics and accomplished by few, including Usain Bolt.

Most memorable, however, is his gold medal at the World Championships in Paris in 2003. He also achieved a personal best with a jump of 2.38 meters achieved in 2005.
