Local elections, Dash Shehi against Berisha's primaries: We are not
Dash Shehi and Sali Berisha

One of DP's traditional allies, Dashamir Shehi, is against Sali Berisha's primaries. The Chairman of the Movement for National Development during an interview for "Report TV" shot down this idea, saying that the race in 2023 is not to find the leader of the opposition, but to give citizens worthy mayors.

"I have heard these things about the primaries, but they are not valid. We are not in a race about who is the party leader. We must be with one candidate, we cannot be divided, this would please Rama. We must decide together who will be our candidates for mayor. We leave the race within ourselves to the race for Municipal Councils. We all support whoever is the best, like in Italy" , he says.

For Shehi, the fate of the Territorial Reform is essential at this political moment, where, according to him, more time and political will are needed for a concrete product.

"It is not a matter of three weeks, it takes more time. It takes will from both sides to achieve a concrete product. If Rama says that there will be 61 municipalities, we cannot collide with the wall, the commission meets in vain. As for the proposals, a division between rural and urban areas is needed. Real decentralization of the budget, as it has not been implemented so far", he continues.

During the interview, Shehi said that so far there have been no discussions either with the DP pulpit or with Mr. Alibey. He emphasized that this rift in the opposition must be repaired as soon as possible to be as united as possible for the next parliamentary elections. Shehi refutes the rumors that list him among the possible candidates for the Municipality of Tirana.

"I don't have that ambition. It is a position that requires youthful energy, I will support the common candidate that the opposition will choose," said Dash Shehi.
