The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka spoke from the floor of the Assembly regarding the Kosovo-Serbia tensions, and the arrest of three Kosovar policemen by the Serbian police.
Xhaçka demanded that the kidnapped policemen be immediately released from Serbia in order to reduce tensions.
"It is imperative that the government of Serbia release the three policemen. Their release would be part of the mitigation of tensions. In the meantime, we leave time for KFOR to clarify what happened," said Xhaçka.
As for the prohibition of vehicles with Serbian license plates, he said that free movement should be guaranteed as an important commitment that the countries have taken within the Berlin Process.
"We followed with concern the statements of the government of Kosovo regarding the ban on vehicles with Serbian license plates. Free movement is an important commitment that countries have taken in the framework of the creation of a common regional market within the Berlin Process. The government has clarified that it is not about trade measures but about security measures. It remains to be seen how this will be implemented, but we hope that it will not happen because it would weaken the position of Kosovo in the eyes of the allies," she added.
She rejected the opposition's accusations about the lack of support for Kosovo Albania, saying that there can be no statements of support when, according to her, the Kosovo government is making wrong decisions that could tense the situation.
"Our ministry has been paying more attention to the situation in the north of Kosovo, where there have been unnecessary measures that have increased tensions. The Prime Minister forwarded a draft to the Association. We consider the step as important to reduce tensions and the return of Kosovo and Serbia in the course of dialogue. After the cancellation of the joint meeting of the two governments, I have heard many theories about Albania's lack of support for Kosovo. Those who shout louder than their bellies about Kosovo are the ones who have done the most damage to Kosovo. Everyone knows who supplied Milosevic with oil. Yes, this does not mean that we should support the government of Kosovo even when we see that it is wrong in what it does. This would not be a good thing and let the analysts scream as much as they want. It is imperative that Kosovo listens to our allies regarding the escalation of the situation. The dialogue facilitated by the European Union is the way to normalize relations"- concluded the minister.
