Varhelyi: In October we hope to open chapters with Albania
Oliver Varhelyi

Next month, Albania will start discussions on the first chapter of membership in the European Union, that on fundamental rights. The news was given in the Hungarian parliament by the commissioner for enlargement, still in office, Oliver Varhelyi.

" Now the issue before us is not whether we will accept the Balkan states into the European family, but when this will happen. The sooner we fully integrate these countries, the stronger and more stable the stability will be. in our continent. In these years we have made important decisions for the opening of negotiations for Albania and North Macedonia by holding the first intergovernmental conferences with them.

Optimism for the actual start of negotiations for the first membership chapters was also expressed by the chief diplomat Igli Hasani a day ago, referring to the relaxation of relations with Greece after Fredi Beleri's release from prison. It is expected that Athens will not oppose holding the second intergovernmental conference in October, while the issue of minority properties will be continuously monitored during the negotiation process.

Commissioner Varhelyi said that the Balkan states have already submitted their plans for the reform agendas and they will be evaluated individually based on achievements.
