Justice Reform, the EU ambassador: The fight against corruption, a key priority!

The EU ambassador in Albania, Silvio Gonzata, in a statement from Shkodra, stated that the Justice Reform is very important.

He emphasized that the Reform "not only guarantees the independence of the justice system, but also ensures that the justice system is accountable to the citizens".

According to the EU ambassador, the fight against corruption is the only way to integrate into the EU, stressing that it should be a key priority in our country. While he expressed his full confidence in the new institutions of Albanian justice.

"I am here in Shkodër with law students to talk about the justice system, justice reform and the role that civil society has to ensure that the reform that was undertaken in 2016 is a reform that not only guarantees the independence of the justice system , but ensures that the justice system is also accountable to citizens.

Because the goal of the reform was precisely to give people confidence, confidence in the institution, confidence especially in Albania's justice, because this is what we need to promote a healthy business environment, to make sure that people want to invest in Albania, but also to make sure that people get justice", he said.

Are cases of corruption affecting?

I think it is very important that the special institution that was created precisely to deal with cases of high-level corruption and organized crime is now bringing some results. I think it gives credibility to Albania's determination to fight corruption, because corruption is harmful to society, it is harmful to the economy, so if Albania wants to join the European Union, it is clear the path to follow.

This should be one of Albania's priorities and should lead to concrete results. So, you know, I have faith in the Albanian justice system. I think we should just let it do its thing and see what it brings.

How is SPAK coping with the great political pressure?

See, the 2016 reform specifically aimed to ensure that the justice system is independent, self-governing and therefore resistant and resilient to political pressures. So I discussed these things with Mr. Duman and he is confident, he is doing his job and I think he should stay calm and carry on.

It's not for me to say, but he (Dumani) didn't seem to be worried about it.
