Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting with TikTok's Head of Government Relations & Public Policy for Europe.
Rama, during his participation in the World Economic Forum in Davos, indicated that he discussed the concerns that led to the closure of the platform in our country.
He revealed that TikTok will be shutting down very soon, but they have set several collaboration milestones in the coming weeks and months to ensure the reopening of the application at the most reasonable time, but with all the necessary guarantees.
"Davos, World Economic Forum - With Christine Grahn, TikTok's Head of Government Relations & Public Policy for Europe, we raised the concerns that led us to the decision to temporarily close access to the platform from Albania, as well as listened to possible ways for the company to address them. A completely open and constructive discussion, where we set several milestones for cooperation in the coming weeks and months, to ensure the reopening of TikTok at the most reasonable time, but of course with all the necessary guarantees, in the absence of which we are forced to close access to the platform soon," Rama writes on Facebook.
Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the closure of the platform on December 21 as part of a plan to increase security in schools.
Rama said that the decision came after a month of consultations between education officials and parents following the stabbing death of 14-year-old Martin Cani, a student at the 'Fan Noli' school, during a conflict with another student, Mario Përlleshi, on November 18, 2024.
Regarding the decision, TikTok has stated that there is no evidence that the violent incidents mentioned are directly related to their platform.
Without concrete evidence proving that TikTok is the main cause of the identified problems, the ban can be considered unfounded and arbitrary.
