Rama explains why he doesn't remove taxes on oil

Prime Minister Edi Rama said the government cannot lower taxes and has put citizens in the face of choosing whether to lower fuel taxes and expensive electricity, or not move the price of electricity and lower fuel taxes.

During his speech, the prime minister presented a grim scenario regarding electricity, stressing that it has been greatly expensive in international markets. According to him, the Albanian government subsidises 80 per cent of the real electricity bill if the price were paid as much as it is today in foreign markets.

"The Social Resistance Package to the consequences of the global energy crisis, as well as the war in Ukraine over prices, is taking final form. By the end of the year we will be pouring 650m euros for energy bills for Albanian households. In the best-case scenario, we will have to pour 295ml euros," he said.
