The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime has decided to reject former President Ilir Meta's request to be released from prison.

Meta's lawyer, Kujtim Cakrani, also spoke about this decision taken by the black squads this Wednesday, and he "exploded" against the justice system, describing this decision as illegal and that his client is being held "hostage".

Cakrani emphasized that all detention deadlines have been exhausted and that his client is not at risk of intimidating witnesses or destroying evidence, and therefore

"It has created a precedent of unlawful hostage-taking. The problem is that the investigations have indeed ended, we are in the preliminary hearing, but let's not forget that we have not held any hearings since the preliminary hearing. We do not know how long this law will last, since Berisha's grandfather lasted 7 months, we do not know what decision he will make, we are in total darkness regarding the Meta case. The court has rejected our request because we do not know. It has created a very dangerous precedent," he said, further "targeting" the people of the judiciary whose standard, according to him, should be measured by the fair decisions they give.

However, according to Cakran, the courts in Albania have turned into "shooting grounds".

"There is no longer any possibility, no real possibility, for Meta to tamper with the evidence because there are neither witnesses who have spoken against him nor evidence to tamper with it. This is a very serious situation because the presumption of innocence no longer exists and this is an alarm bell. We no longer need uncorrupted judges, we need judges who dispense justice. We do not know by what standard they measure it, they do not steal, they do not have mistresses, or by what standard they measure it. The judge is measured by the standard of whether or not he delivers justice. These courts are firing squads," he continued.

Shortly before the start of this session, the lawyer, asked by journalists about the expectations of this session, stated that his client will be released if: " The Ayatollah wants it ", thus implying that his position is on the orders of Prime Minister Edi Rama and is political.
