Erion Braçe has not hidden his ambition to be the Socialist candidate for Tirana in the upcoming local elections of 2027.
This ambition was carefully expressed by Erion Braçe during a meeting with the structures of Unit 5, where he was elected MP after leaving the Fier district.
Two sources from this meeting confirmed to Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu what could be considered the first signal from Braçe to Edi Rama.
"I will appreciate the opportunity to run for Tirana, but I need your support," Erion Braçe is quoted as saying, after discussing a host of problems facing the capital.
The same sources deny reports that Braçe had given Rama an ultimatum that, if he is not elected for Tirana, he will run independently.
Sources close to Erion Braçe in Unit 5, contacted by Top Channel, said that "would anyone believe it if Erion Braçe said that I am independent in the battle for Tirana?"
The same sources said that this is nonsense, when it is known that after the name Erion Braçe there is only one suffix, the Socialist Party of Albania.
"Erion Braçe is one of those socialists, as such, what he considers to be household matters (those discussed in the PS and Unit 5) remain household matters," the same source said.
While Erion Braçe has fanatically guarded and guards his "household belongings," his colleagues within the party took care to quickly spy on his ambition to run.
Before the May 11 elections, when Belinda Balluku did not include Erion Braçe in the Fier competing team, it was learned of a strong disagreement between Braçe and Rama, who positioned him in the Tirana team.
The Braçe-Rama debates were learned from those in the know, but when Erion Braçe, who began his MP career in Berat, was asked about this privately, he stated:
"Well, I'm not like them. I've never done anything to talk inside and get them out."
However, Erion Braçe's assessment of the possibility of being Erion Veliaj's successor remains an interesting development within the SP. (TCH)
