The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, held a meeting with the Department of Social Affairs of the political force, at the premises of the blue headquarters.
The discussion focused on wages, the living wage, and pensions.
He stated that our country is in a problematic situation regarding the wage-price ratio, while adding that Albania does not have a living wage.
"Together we debate a problem that concerns the lives of more than 40% of Albanians, concerns the livelihood, the health, of half of the population in this country. Albania has a dramatic situation in relation to the distribution of income, there is a dramatic situation in the ratio of salaries to prices, there is a situation, it is the only country that does not have a defined minimum living wage."
The leader of the Democrat Party stated that prices in our country are 10% to 20% higher than in EU countries.
"Meanwhile, prices in this country are 10, up to 17, 20% higher than the average price in the European Union countries. In fact, there is no other country with an unaffordable life like Albania. The developments of these last 12, 13 years transformed Albanians from citizens with the highest salaries and pensions in the region, to citizens with the lowest salaries and pensions in the region ," he said.
Focusing on salaries, Berisha stated that they did not follow price indexation.
"Salaries and pensions in Albania, except for some categories, the truth is that they did not even follow price indexation. Salaries and pensions, despite the announced interventions, are today the lowest in the region. If we make a comparison, we find that in this time frame they have quadrupled. They have tripled according to the country. Whereas in Albania there has not even been a doubling if we take into account the price index. The most fundamental factor of this great reversal of the financial situation, of the economic situation of Albanian families, is corruption. It is the unrestrained theft of assets, public funds and public property in this country ," he said.
