The Minister of State of Greece, Stavros Papastavrou, arrived today in the city of Durrës, where he met with Fredi Beleri, who has been in prison for several months.

Papastavrou's visit coincides with Beler's next trial, which will take place the next day, and where he is seeking freedom to be sworn in as mayor of Himara.

The Greek minister announced the visit at 12:00 today, and arrived in Durres together with a group of journalists and cameramen from Greek televisions, to whom he gave an interview after meeting Beleri.

Greece has blocked Albania's EU membership path, claiming that Beler's rights are being violated.

Beleri was jailed on charges of electoral corruption two days before the May 14 polls after he was caught red-handed with sums of money and voter lists that he used to buy votes.
