Ambassador Luigi Soreca, the Chargé d'Affaires of the EU Delegation, has stated that he was informed about the agreement that Albania signed with Italy on the acceptance of refugees, but he was not consulted about the certification memorandum.

He emphasized that at the moment it would be premature to give evaluations for the document, as there are details that need to be verified in the law.

According to Soreca, the EU and member states can cooperate on immigration management issues with other countries, always respecting the implementation of EU legislation and international conventions.

"Let me appreciate that the European Commission has been informed, but not consulted, about the certification memorandum. For this reason, we received the text only two days ago and therefore the consultations on this text are ongoing. We understand that this text is only a first step and will have to be translated into law by both sides, and here we will make our assessment. There are details to be verified in the law. At the moment, it would be premature to give assessments to the document that they have more political value and not necessarily legal. In any case, the EU and its member states can cooperate on immigration management issues with other countries, always respecting the implementation of EU legislation and international conventions," he said.
