Prime Minister Edi Rama, in a meeting with the Socialist parliamentary group in the Presidency of the Assembly, stated that the May 11 elections have greater importance for the country than previous ones.
"Since the start of the post-screening negotiation process and up until today, the speed with which we have progressed in opening chapters is unprecedented. No other country before us and no country in the region has moved at this speed. And this is not only due to our merit, but because the will of the other party is unprecedented. When we came to office, we were the last hole in the horse's back and our backlog in that process was such that it took us time to affirm the status of candidate.
They didn't even look ready for a candidate and at that time we were told that there were some others at the forefront of the process and those others are now behind us. We are side by side with Montenegro, the two countries that can enter the EU and the calendar they have given us is to close the negotiations in 2027. Why is it so important for May 11, because of the fact that today we are talking, right now at this hour, there are about 1 thousand people engaged in the Albanian state who work and are now daily for the negotiations.
There are nearly 40 leaders of the negotiating groups and it is a structure that is the basis for the success of the negotiations. Even if it is not to move the planned work process of this entire army of people by a single day, May 11 should only be the seal of the popular will to give the mandate to the 4th SP with support like never before so that we can close the process and not have a single lost day and no more lost months, otherwise the window will close. If it closes, we do not know when membership will return to the agenda with this alignment of interests," Rama said.
