The reception centers for asylum seekers on account of Italy in Shengjin and Gjadër should have been opened on August 1. But the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni clarified the last meeting with her ministers, disclosed by the Italian media, the reasons why this has not happened yet.

"These months, as ministers Piantedosi and Crosetto know well, we have encountered some technical difficulties which we are overcoming one by one because we believe a lot in this innovative project", said Meloni.

Meloni has no doubt that the centers will be successful in their goal to bring order to migratory movements towards Europe and for this he lists some indicators.

"The possibilities for them to be efficient differ from the mobilization not only of the European left, but also of international NGOs, which, as you have read, are mobilizing against the agreement. At the same time, most EU member states have asked the Commission to take it as a model for an innovative solution."

No more than 3,000 illegal immigrants will be housed in these centers pending the processing of their asylum requests, according to the agreement of November 6, 2023 between Prime Ministers Rama and Meloni.
