Recount in Fier

The recount in the Fier Region brought about a change in the distribution of mandates within the Socialist Party. Zegjine Çaushi, the candidate who went viral on social media due to her "clash" with the head of the Democratic Party parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, lost her mandate by a 10-vote margin to Maldrita Bardho.

After the recount, Çaushi was found to have 48 unmerited votes, for a total of 4,026 votes. Including the diaspora votes, 600 of them, the total number went to 4,626 votes for him.

But on the other hand, Maldrita Bardho had 26 votes unfairly taken away. From the opened ballot boxes, it turned out that she had 3616 votes in total. What opened the "door to victory" for her were the 1020 votes of the diaspora. In total, 4636 votes were cast for Bardho, 10 more than Çaushi, but enough to get her the mandate.

Socialist candidate Zegjine Çaushi gained attention during the May 11 electoral campaign after her "spikes" with Gazment Bardhi on social media.

What did the recount bring in Fier?

According to data released by the Central Election Commission, the Socialist Party was harmed by the first count in Fier. It was unfairly deprived of 30 votes.

The Democratic Party, on the other hand, had 147 undeserved votes.

The biggest swing in Fier occurred between candidates from the same party. In the pink seat, Ceno Klosi resulted with 831 undeserved votes. While the candidate who had lost the most votes unjustly was Klevis Jahaj with 497.

A similar situation also occurred in the opposition camp. Silva Hasaj had 671 undeserved votes, while Gentian Çela had 212.

Due to this situation, Ledio Braho, a member of the Complaints and Sanctions Commission, emphasized that in Fier, unlike Tirana, "we are not in conditions of human error, but it seems that there is deliberate activity by the counting groups."

Among other things, Braho, speaking to the media, emphasized that the results from the recount in Fier are sufficient evidence for the Fier Prosecutor's Office to launch an investigation into vote trafficking.

"Now, I don't believe that the prosecution is unaware that they also follow the news as all Albanians do, but I discussed it today with my colleagues that when we make the decision, we will also take a position regarding how we will proceed, but in any case, I will take the decision with the amended table to the prosecutor's office of general jurisdiction in Fier, along with the minutes reflecting the differences, and I believe that this is sufficient evidence for the Fier Prosecutor's Office to launch an investigation into vote trafficking," Braho emphasized.
