With applause and white carnations on the coffin thrown by those present, the colossus of Albanian literature , Ismail Kadare, was escorted to his last residence .

High personalities of the country, and not only personalities from Kosovo and North Macedonia, have traveled to Tirana to participate in the funeral ceremony of Ismail Kadare.

Among them the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, the head of DUI Ali Ahmeti, the mayor of Tetova. 

As it can be seen in the following photos, Rama and Kurti did not meet, as they kept a distance from each other.

The pain is great for his wife Helena Kadare, and two daughters Gresa and Besjana.

Dressed in black and with tears in their eyes, they await the condolences of a continuous procession of state dignitaries as well as ordinary citizens.

Meanwhile, a few meters away, the book of condolences and a large photo of Ismail Kadere is placed. In honor of the writer, Albania and Kosovo are in mourning.  

Ismail Kadare, one of the most brilliant contemporary writers, several times nominated for the "Nobel" prize in literature, passed away at the age of 88, on the morning of July 1, 2024. 

Kadare suffered "cardio-respiratory arrest" at his home and died at the QSUT hospital in Tirana.
