Paris Peace Forum/ Rama criticizes the EU: Europe is not waking up, there is no
Edi Rama

Since yesterday evening, Prime Minister Edi Rama has been in Paris where he was received by local President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee presidential residence for the Peace Forum.

Rama spoke about Europe today and the rest of the world. The Prime Minister says that Europe is not in the best position today, criticizing it for a certain selfishness in judging others and not looking at itself.

" I believe I have just come from Riyadh where I had the honor of being invited by the Future Investment Forum initiative, to an extraordinary country, thanks to what they represent in global issues, especially when it comes to business, innovation and technology.

When you have the opportunity to be in that part of the world, you realize that in this part of ours, we need to take a shower of humility, because even today, even though the world is completely exposing the boiling waters in relations between countries and approaches to essential things, we continue to think that there is something wrong with the world and that it is only a moment in time and things will return to the way they were.

Because we, the West, and for Europe, think we have the moral legitimacy to believe that we are the point of reference for how the world should be, and that is wrong. It is not true. It is a kind of complacency that in my humble opinion is starting to become more harmful as a perspective and less helpful for self-confidence. What happened in the US at the beginning of this year and I am talking about what Trump described as God's precise plan to save it in order to save America.

In my opinion, it is something that if God really had a plan, part of this plan was to wake up Europe. I don't see Europe waking up. Waking up in the right way. There is an awakening, in many efforts that are being made, namely by the President of the EC, by leaders who are trying to move things forward and in this very strong push to change the position in relation to the idea of defense, but in my opinion, this is something fragmented, less than sufficient and could become dangerous in the medium term. For me it is quite worrying that even today, there is still no European peace plan. There is only a binary approach to a conflict that has the potential to degenerate into something catastrophic ", said Rama.
