SP MP official letter to Greek ministry: Provide us with the list of detained

The detentions of Albanian citizens at the Greek-Albanian border have taken a new turn.

Socialist Party MP, Ardit Bido, has officially addressed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Greece and the Greek Embassy in Tirana, requesting the publication of the list of persons banned from entering Greek territory, as well as the legal reasons behind these decisions.

According to him, the lack of transparency has created insecurity for many citizens who travel regularly for work, family visits or other legitimate reasons for years. This request comes after the neighboring country recently declared journalists Marin Mema and Artan Hoxha 'persona non grata'.

Bido emphasizes that 'it is time for this issue to be officially clarified, to avoid misunderstandings and to strengthen trust between the institutions of the two countries'.

Bido's reaction:

The bans on the Albanian-Greek border do not remain unanswered!

Today, I have officially addressed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Greece and the Greek Embassy in Tirana, to request the publication of the list of Albanian persons who are prohibited from entering Greek territory and the legal reasons that led to this decision.

Albanian citizens deserve transparency, clarity and fair treatment in any procedure related to their free movement. This issue has created uncertainty for years and it is time to be officially clarified.

Official letter:

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Greece
Embassy of the Republic of Greece in Tirana

Request for publication of the list of persons prohibited from entering Greek territory

Honorable Minister,
Honorable Ambassador,

Through this letter, I am addressing you officially on an issue that is important for Albanian citizens and for the relations between our two countries.

For years, Albanian public opinion has been rumored that there is a list of Albanian citizens against whom the Greek authorities have imposed a ban on entry into Greek territory. The lack of official information has created uncertainty and concern, especially among citizens who travel regularly for work, family visits or other legitimate reasons.

For this reason, I ask you to inform:

1. The official list of persons against whom the entry ban has been imposed, together with the relevant legal reasons; or, if publication of names is not permitted,

2. The total number of cases, the categories of legal reasons and the procedure followed for imposing this measure.

Transparency on this issue serves citizens, strengthens trust between institutions, and helps avoid any misunderstandings.

Appreciating the good relations between Albania and Greece, I await an official response.

Respectfully,
Ardit Bido
Member of the Albanian Parliament
Vlora District
