Socialist MP Nasip Naço requested an interpellation with the Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi today, where he asked what will happen to the arms industry in the country as well as to the police officers.
Minister Peleshi announced that yesterday the Council of Ministers approved the law on employee payments, which can be passed in the Assembly.
Excerpts from the interview:
Nasip Naco: Dear Mr. Minister, my questions are about the policies of the Ministry of Defense after the recent events in Ukraine, and have you considered the resumption of the military industry, the former Poliçan mechanical plant.
Have there been proposals to take over military industry sectors by concession from foreign or domestic companies to put them to work in accordance with the law guaranteeing national security?
And thirdly, you have proposed a draft law for the arrears of salaries of employees and former employees of the former Poliçan plant, for the improvement of the economic status, I want to know what has been done in relation to this draft law? You have not yet fulfilled the legal and constitutional obligations for their back wages. You have left it in canning for several years.
Minister, these are the wage demands for about 241 employees, what can I say to those who are waiting for news. How can I justify myself in front of them, when they ask me why those from Ballshi are supported by the government and we are not? How do I answer them? Hiding? Tell them to run away from the Police, tell them to block the road or come to the Ministry of Defense? This is a question that you must answer.
Peleshi: Yesterday, at the meeting of the Council of Ministers, we approved the law for the payments of the employees of the former Poliçan combine. Special law because these enterprises are state-owned, the state is not normally allowed without a special law to assume their obligations.
