The head of the Central Election Commission, Ilirjan Celibashi, has stated that the process of counting diaspora votes is expected to be completed by the end of the week, which, according to him, will also mark the conclusion of the counting process as a whole.
Celibashi made the comments through a statement to the media, saying that counting votes is a job that takes place under stress, in the presence of political candidates, observers, and the media.
"It is a job that takes place under stress, in the presence of political candidates, observers and the media. However, the process is going normally. From a practical point of view, we are at the end of this process. By the end of the week, we will also have the results of the external voting, which will be added to the results of the voting within the country," said Celibashi.
Regarding the diaspora vote, he said that up to this point, 35% of the total has been counted.
"We have counted 262 boxes out of 747 in total. For the Kukës region, we have completed the counting process, excluding 71 envelopes that came from the Greek state."
When asked about the reassessment of the envelopes received from the Greek state, he replied as follows:
"We need to identify the envelopes that are not subject to the counting process. Maybe we should leave them on the table, that's all that's left. I really want to understand the KAS decision on what it is that we need to change."
He added that the postal company (DHL) was asked for documentation for the distribution of the envelopes.
"There is no decision by the State Commissioner to block the process of counting votes from abroad. It has to do with the way these envelopes are administered. There is no decision to not evaluate votes from abroad. The letter has been public for a long time. We have asked the company for documentation of the distribution of the envelopes in the Greek state. This is related to who it was sent to, when, etc. ," said Celibashi.
