Berisha: Albanian pensioners are the worst paid in Europe!
Sali Berisha

Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha said today during a press conference that Prime Minister Edi Rama used the 100 euro gift for pensioners to influence the vote.

Berisha said that Eurostat data shows that Albanian pensioners, throughout Europe , are the ones who are paid the least.

He adds that Albanian pensioners are paid 50 percent less in nominal monthly terms than the penultimate country, Turkey.

Excerpt from Berisha's speech:

The electoral farce of May 11, 2025 had the most inhumane, most cynical aspects. Edi Rama used the 100 euro gift for pensioners, for 760 thousand pensioners, to influence the vote at a time when I have brought here a Eurostat statistic.

And this Eurostat statistic shows that Albanian pensioners across Europe are the ones who are paid less than everyone else.

They are the ones who, in nominal monthly terms, are paid 50 percent less than the penultimate country, Turkey. While in terms of purchasing power of the currency, they are almost three times lower than Turkey.

They are about twice as low as Bosnians and are over twice as high as 6.5 times lower than other pensioners.

So, if in purchasing power, I'm not saying that it's 20-30 times, but I'm taking purchasing power because this is a more realistic indicator, in purchasing power, the Albanian pensioner is about 7 times lower than a European pensioner.

I focused on this graph for two reasons. To condemn the inhumane policy being pursued against pensioners, a policy that is based entirely on government theft and corruption.

Don't forget that these 760 thousand pensioners, who as you can see in purchasing power receive 2 to 2.5 times less than the two penultimate countries, receive much less than the promised living wage, which would be 1.6, but would be 2.4, more than it is today, and of course the 100 euros donated have had an extraordinary effect on these people who receive an average of 133 euros per month.

If we take into account the prices, which are 117 percent, or 17 percent higher than the EU average, it is likely that the gap between the Albanian pensioner and the European pensioner with the average pension will be many times greater.
