A woman has made a fuss on the internet after sharing her video bringing her son to life in the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Josy Peukert, 37, posted videos from the day she was born off the coast of Playa Majagual, Nicaragua.
She gave birth to the baby without medical help, after refusing scans throughout the pregnancy. Baby Bodhi Amor Ocean Cornelius was born on February 27th.
"I took this initiative with my head, I wanted to be born in the ocean and because the conditions were right that day, this is what I did," Josy was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
"For weeks I monitored the waves and so, when it was the right time to give birth, I knew the beach would be safe for us."
When Josy knew she was about to give birth, her children stayed with friends as her partner took her to the beach with a maternity bag, which included towels, a bowl with a sieve to hold the placenta, gauze and paper towels.
She added: "The waves had the same rhythm as the contractions, that smooth flow made me feel very good." As a video shows Josy kneeling on the surfboard as she undergoes her contractions. Another video shows her holding her newborn son, who still has his umbilical cord tied, in the water.
"After Bodhi was born and wrapped in a towel, I went back to the ocean to cool off. Then we got dressed and packed everything, we left for home where the three of us went to bed. Later that evening we weighed Bodhi with scales. He was 3.5 kg ", - said the mother.
Josy explained why she wanted her baby to be born without medical intervention. "My first birth was traumatic in a clinic, the second birth happened at home, but in the third a midwife in my house was too much. This time I had no appointment with the doctor, I did not do any scans or external influences.
We did not have a specific date or deadline for the baby to arrive, we just believed that our baby would make his way. I had no fears or worries about welcoming a new little soul into our lives, just me, the partner and the waves. It was beautiful. "The soft volcanic sand beneath me reminded me that there is nothing between heaven and earth but life."
