The movie "Home Alone" was released 33 years ago and is rightfully ranked among the most popular Christmas movies of all time.
However, the protagonist of the film is not only Macaulay Culkin, but also the house where it was filmed.
Built in a colonial style with dark red brick and white wood detailing, the McCallister family home is located about half an hour outside of Chicago and was owned by the Abendshien family at the time of filming.
Director Chris Columbus chose this particular house mainly because it was beautiful, but because of its size it can also seem threatening.
It was also ideal for doing all the dangerous scenes in the film. "It's the house where, if you were a child, it would be fun to be alone," he said.
The house has ten bedrooms, six bathrooms and a large garden behind it. Even if it wasn't the home of "Home Alone", even if it hadn't become a local attraction, its value would still be great, because as you'll see in the video below, it's super luxurious.
Today it is valued at 2.3 million dollars, while in 2012 the new owners bought it for 1.5 million.
Since then the house has been inhabited normally and cannot be visited unless you personally know the owners, whose name is not known to the public, but two years ago they joined Airbnb and offered the house for rent for just one night.
