John (John) Belushi, the Albanian-born actor with worldwide fame, a genius talent, the myth of America's humor, would have turned 75 today. He died early at the peak of his youth, at the age of 33 (as many years as Christ...). John Adam Belushi was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA, to Albanian parents. In the thirty-three years he lived, the zenith of his fame with "Saturday Night Live", "Radio Hour" and films such as "Animal House" and "Blues Brothers" had an extraordinary success in his career, since modern times hardly anyone has achieved it. The brilliance of his talent, like a comet, has not faded even today. The more time passes, the higher the legend around his name rises (as happens with geniuses). "John was above all of us, a phenomenon...", says actor Bill Murray.
His genius is affirmed by many great artists and, beyond them, the memory and consciousness of the American public. John brought a realistic and modern concept to the treatment of the comic characters he created, through a game that is serious in appearance, but deep inside, with comedy and sarcasm and with sudden suggestive contrasts. Imitations in the creation of many types, such as Samurai, Beethoven, Marlon Brando, Joe Cocker, etc., remain irreplaceable. The roles in the films we mentioned above are unrepeatable achievements of interpretation in the genre of humor and not only, which had not been seen by anyone before.
He updated and gave a modern sound to the interpretation of the classic, "the comic that never laughs", Buster Keaton. If I may borrow Noli's metaphor for Hamlet, I dare say that John was the "tallest tree in the forest" of American humor at that time and for years afterward.
John Belushi's life itself was like a movie, a war with himself, full of thirst and desire to live intensely, with its own ups and downs, with joy, humor, depression, demotivation... with the star of fame on top as a crown, but also with a tragic end. In his youth, when he played American football as a defender-midfielder, his teammates called him "Killer Belushi", as if it was a bad omen for what he became as his own "killer". "Johnny, as it was written about him"… loved life, parties, loved to have fun and be wild, make people laugh. The late 70's and early 80's were notorious for drug use in Hollywood.

Everywhere you went, drugs were there. Producers, directors, actors, everyone was getting it. John was no exception. March 5, 1982 was his last night at the Chateau Bungalow, room number 3, where he was working on a movie script... John went too far. The mixture of heroin and cocaine that night had a cumulative effect on his brain, stopped his breathing and finally caused the collapse of the entire respiratory system..." In the chronicle of the time it was written: "On Tuesday, March 9, under the sounds of "That Lonesome Road" he was buried in Abel's Hill Cemetery on Martha's Vineyard.
On March 11, nearly a thousand people, friends and relatives of the family, attended the memorial mass in New York, at the Cathedral of Saint John Devine. To keep his promise to his friend, Dan Aykroid (Blues Brothers) released the song "2000 Pound Bee" on the tape recorder (the song that John had wanted to be accompanied by when he died). They had set a condition: Whoever would be the first to leave this world, the other would fulfill his wish, accompanying him with that song. Dan Aykroid performed the bequest. The hall was stunned at first, but then burst into laughter."

I had the opportunity to meet for the first time and accompany the Albanian Hollywood star James (James) Belushi, John Belushi's brother in Albania, in 1995 when he came for a family visit with his father, Adam (immigrated from Albania in 1934, at the age of 14) and Robert, his son (14 years old). Three generations of Belushi, father, son, grandson.
I keep the summer of that year as a precious memory. Their journey to their homeland was full of events and surprises, with joy and tears of longing. The town, the birthplace of Adam, the father of the famous John and James Belushi, is located on the southeastern border with the Greek state.
Adami had left the town as a child and, like many other Albanians, had taken the crooked path to America. The town is a beautiful mountain village with traditional style houses, the church on the hill and a stream running through the village. In front of the stone bridge, there is an abandoned house, almost a ruin, the house of the Belushes. They say that after John's tragic death in March 1982, Agnesa, his mother (the daughter of an early Albanian emigrant, born in America to Albanian parents) had come to Albania incognito (a fact that was not even imagined to be written in in the official press of that time, there was no mention of that strange visit, nor of the sensational fame, nor of the shocking death of the famous Albanian who conquered America, much less to think of turning that ruined house into a museum national under the protection of the communist state..!) In our shadow world at that time, not only John Belushi, Stan Dragoti and any other Albanian personality, but also Mother Teresa was not mentioned, as if they were a curse for the dark Albania of that time.
On that bridge, the fellow villagers said, Agnesa, unable to reach the threshold, had thrown herself onto the stones of the bridge crying "John, son" and, then she had taken some handfuls from that plot of land, to pointed at the grave of his son, John, on Abel's Hill where he rested. I remember a similar touching scene like this, in the days Jimin and I visited Qyteza and his father's house. I saw how he, with a longing, which he tried to hide, collected some stones from that house and put them in a suitcase, which he had brought with him especially for this purpose. Lives of people with their pains and dramas, no matter how famous, they are people like all of us. In Albania, in meetings with colleagues, Xhimi had also talked about the career of his brother, Xhoni, the star who died prematurely. He deeply felt the pain of his tragic death and avoided comments when asked for details... He kept the pain for his brother as a taboo in his soul alongside the anger layered over the years for all that cruel fate had done to John, the spiritual mentor of his inspiration in art, with that unnatural and tragic death, at the height of glory and fame.
It's hard to imagine what effort the ordeal of a career like his requires in that world, not even to describe in words, when you consider the heights where John Belushi's art and fame reached! Which actor would not have dreamed of the name, the talent, the brilliance of his fame, the roles that Johnny created before he left this world?! That carelessness of his was perhaps not only his fault, but also a curse or a cruel act of nature itself, which annihilates its own creature in an unexpected moment as revenge for the rebellion or defiance of the one who oversteps the permitted limits ... But jealousies of all kinds happen to be openly and subtly opposed.
Years ago, I met such types, disliking and excluding the values of your nation... Without underestimating their knowledge, nor overestimating yours, you understand that some people have a trick, that basically they are not only prejudiced, but also ignorant and ambitious at the same time, denying a priori and evil, even towards the culture of your country... and what not...? I once met such a guy in a group (I called it luck that we were in the presence of some people, in front of whom I pointed out my friend's ignorance...). Do you know, sir, that Mother Teresa, the symbol of mercy for the unfortunate in the world, is Albanian, that John Belushi, America's great comic, is Albanian, that the savior from the crisis of male impotence (without wanting to hurt you or you if. .) of the 35 million American men with such symptoms is an Albanian, the laureate of the Nobel Prize, Dr. F. Murad? (Don't they want a punchy answer? In any case - most likely - this is how it should be done.)

Fort!

JOHN BELUSHIT
U enda natën në Hollywood Boulevard,
Shtrojën e famës shkela anefund,
Në koloninë e yjeve, pambarim atje,
Yllin tënd s’e pashë, Xhon, askund…!
Ku të jetë fshehur, si ta gjej,
Me atë shkëlqim që kurrë s’u fik?!
…
Mijëra milje larg, Ishullit të Martës,
Në Kodrën e Abelit prehet shtati yt,
Mbetur atje, si në skaj të botës,
Që e deshe, por s’të deshi ty…!
Ç’fat i keq, Zoti të ndëshkoi,
Që në zenit t’i këputi ëndrrat,
Kush të shpuri atij gjumi pa kthim,
Në Los Anxheles, qytetin e engjëjve?!
Ulërij, nga dhimbja sa s’shkalloj,
Pré e vdekjes, s’tu dhimb jeta, mik,
Ti, shqiptar i madh fat-tragjik,
Mit i Amerikës… mit!
…
(Pse ndëshkon aq vrazhdë fati ngaherë,
Më të pazakontët, thuaj pa dallim,
…
Kot t’i hamendësh të fshehtat e botës,
Se ç’sjell jeta, veç një Zot e di,
Trishton bulevardi si varrezë yjesh,
Ku mungon vezullimi yt.
Tej shkëlqimit flu të Hollywood-it.

Good morning! Gess what? JOHN GOT THE STAR! I am so happy!” Zëri ishte i plotë, i ngritur thuajse në qiell… You made my day, Jim!
Suicide (specialists claim) does not have a single direct cause, but appears as a very complicated phenomenon for a multitude of things, which cannot be easily explained... a phenomenon dictated by different and special circumstances, or by genuine pathological problems. The actor's sensitivity, also due to the nature of the profession (entering and exiting from different characters is breaking like the colors of light in a hexagon), with stage emotions, can often cause strong and unforeseen shocks in some, psychic trauma.
The artist, perhaps, losing the meaning of existence, futility... (sometimes the lack of the cause itself, is the cause...) for fatality, in deep despair bids farewell to life. Nothing is absolute and no conjecture can determine the cause, let's leave it to the specialists in the field, but such tragedies happen and cause us pain and shock us even more than they should have happened before the price of high and immeasurable life.
