The famous canals of Venice are drying up

A frightening tide has emptied the water in the canals of Venice. The famous gondolas have been left in the mud, creating a totally unexpected image for thousands of tourists who visit the special Italian city every day.

Italian media report that the removal of water has become a problem for the residents of the area, who use the canals to move by boat.

The tide has also highlighted the ancient foundations of buildings, while many fish have died. Local authorities have announced that the water level has dropped to 70 centimeters. "Almost 15 years have passed since such a tide," said Alvise Papa from the Tide Prediction Center.

This situation is expected to last in Venice at least until February 21.
