Scientists in China claim to have created a sunscreen that can lower body temperatures by up to six degrees Celsius.
As the South China Morning Post reports, according to a study at Beijing-based Tsinghua University, sunscreen is designed to protect the skin as climate change has resulted in higher temperatures worldwide.
"We have prepared a refreshing sunscreen, which can not only significantly reduce skin temperature, but also protect the skin from damage from ultraviolet radiation," the research highlighted.
It further states that the product has "promising commercial potential in the sunscreen market."
Zhang Rufan, one of the researchers, said people need to adapt as climate change leads to more extreme weather, but he added, adapting to heat is more challenging than coping with cold.
"We can wear thick clothes to stay warm in cold temperatures. But in extreme heat higher than 50 degrees Celsius, outdoor workers such as transport police, road workers and farmers have to face severe conditions that can lead to heat stress, exhaustion or death. They need effective cooling methods and skin protection," Zhang said.
