St. Sophia of Istanbul with payment for foreign nationals

Foreign visitors to Istanbul's once most important Orthodox church, Hagia Sophia, will pay for its upkeep.

The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism has launched an application for access to the Saint Sophia monument, as it was before it was converted into a mosque. Entry will be free for those who go to pray. The fee for foreigners entering the historic mosque for tourist purposes is 25 euros.

In the context of the restoration and protection of the monument, it is planned to place a ticket office in a specific place that has already been prepared for visitors, being put into operation starting from yesterday, January 15.

In addition, security cameras, fire detection systems and emergency notification systems have been installed, while protective measures have been taken along the itinerary for visiting the mosque.

Turkish citizens who will visit the mosque for religious purposes will continue to enter free of charge through the entrance provided for this reason.
