US warns of cancer risk from alcoholic beverages

The President's Advisor for Health Policy in the United States today instructed that a warning about the risk of cancer be added to the labels of alcoholic beverages, noting that their consumption increases the risk of breast, liver, colon and other types of cancer.

Presidential Advisor on Health Policy Vivek Murthy called for a reassessment of guidelines on alcohol consumption limits so that people weigh the risk of cancer when deciding whether to consume alcohol and how much.

"Alcohol consumption is among the three leading causes of various types of cancer in the U.S., which can be prevented. Alcohol is the third, after tobacco and obesity, that increases the risk of contracting 7 types of cancer," the Office of the President's Advisor for Health Policy said in a statement, accompanied by a recent report.

According to the data from this report, alcohol is responsible for 100,000 cases of cancer in the US and 20,000 cancer deaths each year, far more than the 13,500 deaths resulting from traffic accidents.

In the US, there are about 20,000 alcohol-related deaths each year, the report said.

Currently, alcoholic beverage labels in the United States contain warnings about the health risks of alcohol, pregnant women are advised not to consume alcohol, and it is also warned that alcohol consumption impairs an individual's ability to drive.

This warning has not changed since its inception in 1988.
