Karen Green got an iPhone in 2007, but did something most people don't do, she never opened it. A few days ago, this iPhone was sold at auction for 51,900 euros.
16 years after it was purchased, it costs 100 times more than it originally did. In 2007 it was sold for $599 and has 8 gigabytes of storage.
Of course, the fact that it is still in the original packaging has made it sell at this price.
Mark Montero of LCG Auctions told BBC News that it is extraordinary to discover after so long an original iPhone model with tags intact.
This company undertook to sell it since February 2, until the process was completed after 27 offers.
Mrs Green had received this phone as a present at the time, but realized that she had bought another one and decided not to spoil the packaging by storing it.
"It's an iPhone, it won't lose value", she thought. And luckily for her, it was completely true.
Loyal Apple enthusiasts are known to pay big bucks for genuine products. Last year, an early type of Apple computer from the 1970s sold for over $677,000.
Older iPhones in similar pristine condition have sold before, one for $35,414 in August and another for $39,339 in October.
Ms. Green told Business Insider that she would have kept the phone longer for more money, but she needed it because she was opening a business in New Jersey.
