The shower is one of those things you'll have a hard time changing if someone tries to give you advice; some like it lukewarm, others only enter hot water and some even combine hot and cold water in the shower
The intense heat, however, often forces us to take a cold shower in the summer to cool off as much as possible.
According to experts, showering with hot water will warm us even more. No matter how much you like a hot bath, which simultaneously relaxes the muscles and reduces tension, it has a counterproductive effect in the summer because it warms our body extra.
Cold water will reduce blood circulation to the skin, without lowering the body temperature at all. When you shower, you will feel cool and relieved, but after just a few minutes you may feel even hotter than before the shower.
Likewise, immersion in ice cold water can cause shock and multiple reactions; from hyperventilation to heart attack. Therefore it is better to take a lukewarm shower on summer days.
The ideal water temperature would then be around 37 degrees, just like your body temperature. Also, showering with cold water, like showering with hot water, has its advantages and disadvantages, so the best option is to stick to the golden mean, not only in summer, but all year round.
"Cooler water is good if you sweat a lot when it's hot outside," said Abha Gulati, dermatologist at Harley Street Dermatology Clinic.
"Make sure you take a little longer shower to make sure your body temperature is low enough to stop sweating," she added.
