A plane with about 300 passengers on board was forced to return to London Heathrow after flying for 40 minutes when it was discovered that the co-pilot did not have the proper qualifications to perform such a flight.
The plane, an Airbus A330, had departed from Heathrow and was bound for New York.
While over Ireland, the captain was informed that the co-pilot had not completed his final flight test before being provided with a flight permit of this category.
He decided to return immediately to London, from where he had started. Passengers waited at the airport until the pilot was replaced. The plane arrived in the US 3 hours late from the scheduled time.
