Nasa is looking to recruit four astronauts, or rather four volunteers who dream of becoming one. They will be able to participate in a one-year simulation project about a possible life on the planet Mars.
Volunteers will live inside "Mars Dune Alpha," a 158-square-meter 3D-built structure near the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. During this period the 'Martians' will take simulated space walks and undergo physical and emotional testing.
The experiment is called 'team health and analog performance exploration' and will start next year after 13 months of selection. Each of the participants will receive 60 thousand dollars.
The criteria required for this selection are very strict: candidates must be US citizens between the ages of 30 and 55; have an excellent state of health; not to be smokers and without criminal precedents.
They must also have at least a master's degree in a subject such as: science, technology, engineering or mathematics. Among other things, they have completed at least one thousand flight hours as pilots or have completed military service.
