Architectural monuments have always fascinated people. Structures such as the La Sagrada Família in Barcelona or the Empire State Building in New York City are as famous as the cities where they are located, attracting millions of visitors each year who are eager to personally witness the grandeur of these buildings.
But, according to a new report from Money.co.uk, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai arouses people’s curiosity more than anything else, as this imposing structure is the most sought after architectural design on Google worldwide.
The building is searched on Google on average more than 1.5 million times a month and is the most popular structure in 71 countries around the world.
This multi-functional skyscraper, which holds several world records, including the record of the tallest building and tallest structure without support, rises to a great height of 828 meters in the center of Dubai.
The building has 162 floors and an observation deck on the 124th floor, also the tallest observation deck in the world.
The Burj Khalifa, inaugurated in 2010, was conceived by award-winning architect Adrian Smith of Chicago-based studios Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.
The company's most notable projects include the Millennium Park and the NBC Tower in Windy City, the General Motors Renaissance Center in Detroit, and the New York City Central Park Tower.
Although the Burj Khalifa is a marvel of engineering and human ingenuity, its Y-shaped design with levels was inspired by the local Hymenocallis Spider Lily desert. Many businesses are located in this skyscraper, including Armani Hotel Dubai and Armani Residences, At.Mosphere - the tallest restaurant in the world, located on the 122nd floor, and the Burj Khalifa Lounge, which is located at an altitude of 585 meters .
Second on the Money.co.uk list is the Eiffel Tower - the most searched architectural project on Google, in 29 countries. The historic landmark of Paris was built for the city's Universal Exposition in 1889. Since then, it has become its symbol and one of the most visited areas of Paris.
The Taj Mahal of India ranks third. It took almost 20 years for this building to be completed. It was conceived as a mausoleum for the wife of Emperor Shah Jahan, who died during the birth of her child.
