Attention, today is FRIDAY and…the 13th/ Why is it considered an
13 brings bad luck

For the superstitious, the number 13 brings bad luck, as does Friday, but even when the two come together, like today, people try to avoid moving around, to postpone meetings for another day.

According to estimates, more than 60 million people around the world are greatly affected by this day and prefer to stay at home.

The 13th and Friday are each considered unlucky, but when they come together, the combination is "catastrophic."

On some airlines, row 13 has long since disappeared. There are several theories about the origin of this date and day combination.

The number 13 is an unlucky number that breaks the whole number 12. Twelve is seen as a whole number, reflecting the 12 months of the year, the 12 numbers of the clock, the 12 gods of Olympus, the 12 tribes of Israel, the 12 apostles of Jesus, the 12 followers of Muhammad in the Shiite Islamic faith, the 12 signs of the zodiac, and more.

As for Friday, it has been considered an unlucky day since at least the 14th century.

Friday was also the day of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Why is the number 13 considered so unlucky according to historians?

Researchers show that at least 10% of the American population is afraid of the number 13, and even more so when the 13th falls on a Friday.

People avoid getting married on this date, travel is less, even on workdays.

But what is so unlucky about the number 13 and how did this numerical superstition start?

The early myth surrounding the origin of fear is included in one of the world's oldest legal documents, the Code of Hammurabi, which states that a 13th law is missing from the list of legal rules.

But in fact, the omission of this law was nothing more than a clerical error made by one of the earliest translators of the document who did not include a line of text.

Thirteen is generally considered unlucky, and the most infamous incident involving this number comes from the Bible. Judas, who betrayed Jesus, was the 13th guest to sit at the Last Supper.

On the other hand, Friday is not considered a good day either, referring to the crucifixion of Jesus on the same day.

In the United Kingdom and other countries, Friday was known as Executioner's Day, because people sentenced to death were executed.

Others refer to the day when King Philip IV executed hundreds of knights participating in the Crusades of Jerusalem.

The phobia of Friday the 13th is known as Paraskevidekatriaphobia and is a combination of two phobias: phobia of the number 13 and phobia of Friday.

Regarding the number 13, it is one of the most widespread superstitions, as it is common for buildings to not have the 13th floor marked. The same goes for airplanes, where in some cases there are no seats with the number 13.

People refuse to travel on this date and planes depart almost empty.
