American company successfully lands its spacecraft on the Moon

An American company has successfully landed its spacecraft on the Moon. Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost 1 touched down at 8:34 a.m. Sunday near Mons Latreille, a volcanic formation in Mare Crisium on the near northeast side of the moon.

Immediately after company chief Jason Kim confirmed that the spacecraft was in a stable and upright position, the team erupted in cheers.

Blue Ghost program manager Ray Allensworth emphasized the precision of the landing, noting that it crashed within 100 meters of its target.

"We did two hazard avoidance maneuvers on the way down, which tells us that our software worked exactly as it should," she said.

The first image from the plane revealed rugged, pocketed terrain, which caused the Blue Ghost to navigate autonomously during its final descent, slowing it down.

The mission is part of a $2.6 billion NASA partnership aimed at reducing costs and supporting Artemis, the program designed to return astronauts to the Moon.

The hippopotamus-sized Blue Ghost launched on January 15 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
