An 'escaped' kangaroo temporarily closed a section of an Alabama highway on Tuesday as authorities and the animal's owner tried to remove it.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said a portion of Interstate 85 lanes in Tuskegee, about 40 miles east of Montgomery, were closed after the kangaroo cut off traffic and caused two vehicles to collide.
The kangaroo was not injured, the agency said, but the condition of the drivers is unclear. Authorities and the owner were able to capture the animal and the road has reopened.
In a video released by Macon County Sheriff Andre Brunson, the kangaroo is seen slowly moving down a hill near the highway after being shot with a tranquilizer. The owner then picks it up and puts it in the car.
The kangaroo is named Sheila, while owner Patrick Starr has a pumpkin patch and a zoo, but the kangaroo is just his pet.
"She's back home safe and sound. She's awake. She's no longer under the effects of the sedatives. She's eating. She's drinking. She's not hurt," he told the Associated Press.
