Doctors are surprised: All patients who were receiving experimental treatment

A new drug, which is being tested for colorectal cancer has surprised doctors as it has proven 100% successful in clinical trials. Dostarlimab, a laboratory-produced drug with molecules that act as antibodies in the human body, surprised researchers as participants did not show symptoms for a year after taking the drug, write foreign media.

Doctors performed physical examinations, endoscopy, PET scans and MRI scans and were unable to find any traces of cancer in their body. Doctors at the Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Center in New York said it was "the first time in the history of cancer."

Dr Diaz and a team of researchers published the study on their findings in the New England Journal of Medicine, describing their phenomenal results. The findings are now making waves in the medical world, with Dr Alan P. Venook, who told the New York Times that the disappearance of symptoms in a patient's year had never happened before.

Dr Venook is a colorectal cancer specialist at the University of California and was not involved in the study, but he has hailed the achievement as a success as it is the first time in the world that traces of cancer disappear completely in a patient.

What is also important according to the doctors is that the patients had no symptoms after taking the medicine. The 18 patients with colorectal or colon cancer who participated in the clinical trials have been tired of previous treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery that may result in bowel, urine, and even sexual dysfunction.

Memorial Cancer Center Sloan Kettering and one of the study's co-authors, oncologist Dr. Andrea Cercek, also describes the moment when patients discovered that they no longer had symptoms of cancer.

"They cried for joy," she told the New York Times.

Colorectal Cancer - commonly known as bowel cancer, affects 100,000 Australians each year, according to Cancer Australia. Dostarlimab is a newer drug that has been used against cancer. In May, a team of American doctors unveiled their groundbreaking research that could mean we are on the right track to finding a cure.

Scientists injected a patient with a new genetically modified virus that kills cancer. The drug Vaxinia has already proved successful in animal testing, so scientists and medical researchers have high hopes that the results will be positive for humans as well.

To date, Oncolytic virus reduces cancerous tumors of the colon, lung, breast, ovary, and pancreas in animal trials.
