A 22-year-old model is facing up to 5 years in prison after taking photos next to a Thai royal monument.

Pim Atchapara caused outrage when she posed in a provocative outfit in front of a statue of King Rama I in Buriram province on March 24.

In the photo, the 22-year-old model was wearing a very short brown skirt, through which her underwear was visible, and a red T-shirt.

"Please visit my city", the model wrote in the photo.

After the photos were posted, local residents alerted the police, while Astapara tried to avoid the worst by posting photos of himself paying homage to the statue, claiming he only wanted to invite tourists to the area.

"After posting the photos on my personal social media accounts I also received messages against my parents, which was unacceptable as I did not know what I was doing was a crime. I wasn't thinking carefully about what I was doing. I apologized", said the 22-year-old after the arrest.

In addition to the risk of prison, the model also faces a fine of 4000 dollars.
