Christie's auction house in Geneva will put up for sale on May 11 a 228.31 carat pear-shaped diamond, reports Reuters.
"The preliminary estimate goes from 20 million to 30 million dollars. We expect to sell it for the highest possible price ", says Rahul Kadakia, head of the international department at Christie's.

"I have been here for 25 years. Christie's has been here for 256 years. "And all this time, this is the biggest diamond of this shade we have ever put on sale," he added.

The gemstone was discovered, and then processed, about two decades ago in South Africa.

Another 205.07 carat diamond known as the "Red Cross Diamond" will be auctioned on May 11.
"It is quite unusual to have two 200 carat diamonds in a single auction. The Red Cross diamond weighs 205 carats and was found in 1907 at the 'DeBeers' mine in South Africa. "It was then sold to Christie's of London in 1918 at a Red Cross auction during the war."
According to forecasts, this diamond can be sold from 7 million to 10 million dollars, while a part of the amount will go to the International Red Cross.
