Lawyer Nexhi Beqiri, invited to "Wake Up", has shown how the property is divided between a couple if they decide to separate.

According to her, in 2023 there are three types of property division regimes, when there is a marriage settlement.

Nexhi Beqiri: In the tradition of Albania, since the civil code of 1929 and until 2003, there has been a system of legal community, which means everything that is acquired during the marriage, when the marriage breaks up, it will be divided 50% by 50%, the property that they have. Now in 2023, bearing in mind that Albania has changed, we are not in the conditions of that other system, now we have three types of property division regimes when we have a marriage settlement.

We have the system of the legal community that the majority have, about 90% or more, people do not know that there is another system, the system of divided assets, which means that before you get married, a contract is made, which is registered all the movable and immovable assets that each of the partners has and it is decided how it will work after the marriage, each one decides to have his own assets and in case of separation of marriage what is written in the contract you have no right to touch.
